I am looking forward to the run, but have been getting periodically confused with the dates when reading the blogs from last year. Could some of that information that is NOT pertinent be pulled off so people don’t think registration is on the 6th?

    • Hi Bette,

Thanks for the feedback. We decided to keep our 2009 “What to Expect” post because it has valuable information. But, I did remove the dates to avoid any future confusion.

  2. I have few general questions:

    1. Will dogs be allowed on this year’s walk? If not,

    A. is there any other runners/walker who will need a dog sitter for the few hours of the event so that we can share him/her, or
    B. are there any family members of runners who will not be walking and could keep the dogs during the event and meet us at the finish line, or
    C. are there reliable dog sitters available for hire during those hours? We would like to leave our dog in the morning before we board the buses and pick him up at the finish line.

    2. Also, my husband will be walking. Can we board the same bus to get to St. Ignance, as we will be staying in Mackinac City?

    3. After the race will runners be allowed to walk back so that we could meet our family members and finish the walk together?

    Thank you.

    • Michela,

      1. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed as a part of the Bridge Run or Bridge Walk. As for dog sitters, perhaps other participants can weigh in.
      2. Only runners with designated t-shirts and wristbands (you receive these at check-in) are allowed on the Bridge Run privately reserved buses. There are public buses available for family and friends for $5 that travel between Mackinaw City and St. Ignace. For more information on the Bridge Walk visit http://www.mackinacbridge.org/annual-bridge-walk-7/.
      3. You will not be allowed to walk back across the Bridge the opposite way. If you are interested in participating in the Bridge Walk to meet family, you will have to wait in line for the public buses traveling back to the start line in St. Ignace.

  3. I just shot off an e-mail, but figured I would post here as well. I have yet to receive my information/registration packet. Is there somewhere on-line I can pay my fee so I don’t miss the deadline?

  4. Just a quick follow-up on the phone call today. Question: Do you know the change in elevation, as a percent or in feet, from the beginning to the mid-point of the bridge?

Thanks for getting back to me!

    • Hi Gary,

According to our veteran runners there is an approximate incline of 5% in the middle of the bridge. Several individuals have noted that the incline is very gradual and is not very noticeable but they still recommend including hill climbing in your training program.

  5. I’ve been selected to participate in the 2011 run over the bridge, which I’m very excited about, and would like to make reservations at a nearby hotel. Since I would prefer to walk to the start of the race (where buses will pick us up for the ride to St. Ignace start) in Mackinaw City, do you have any information on hotels from which i can walk? I would appreciate your input.
    Thanks
    Pam Boven

  6. Hi Pam!

I think you’re referring to walking to the Mackinaw City Recreation Center, where buses will pick runners up and take them to the start line in St. Ignace. There are several hotels within walking distance of the recreation center, the Holiday Inn Express and Days Inn are two options. I would encourage you to make your reservations as soon as possible as Labor Day Weekend is the busiest time of year in Mackinaw City.

  7. I am running the bridge and my wife is walking. We have a room in St. Ignace. Can we park the car near the start line early Monday and then be able to get a bus back to it afterwards? First timers so this is new to us.

    • There is a bus that will pick runners up at the Mackinaw City Rec Center at 8:30 a.m. that will take runners back to St. Ignace (the start line.)

      See you at the bridge!
