What an inspiring event! For the past 10 years the Michigan Fitness Foundation has had the opportunity to collaborate with the Mackinac Bridge Authority, the Michigan Department of Transportation and the Governor’s Office to bring you the Mackinac Bridge Labor Day Run. Thank you to everyone who has played a role in making each year’s event a success.
We have received so many excited emails and phone calls from this year’s participants. We are equally thrilled to deliver you the best experience yet during the 2013 Bridge Run. Looking back, we have made strides in growing the event over the past 10 years. This year there will be 500 Michigan athletes racing across the Mighty Mac. The participants continue to teach us the importance of a commitment to health, growing active communities and Getting Michigan Moving. Countless inspiring stories are remembered, tons of pasta consumed and endless Mackinac opportunities shared. Maybe you are the recently new runner or the die-hard veteran. The father, the mother, the child, the neighbor, the friend. Each of you is here because of your dedication to your personal health and grasps an inner drive to be a part of a healthier Michigan.
I am proud of the returning runners and their drive to run. To the first year runners I offer you this advice: attend the Pasta Dinner, experience Mackinac’s beauty and get to the starting line early. The sunrise is breathtaking on the Mackinac Bridge and it is a rush to be able to run alongside it.
I congratulate you all and wish you the best experience possible. If you have a chance, please feel free to approach a staff member over the weekend to share a story about your experience. We can’t wait to see you all. Let’s forge new experiences and memories together this Labor Day weekend.
